GENERAL EQUIPMENT

REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- If there are any signs of a lateral impact on any of the wheels, take
the car for a test drive, and assess for
a noisy bearing. Also rotate the bearing of the corresponding wheel, and
feel for any notchiness. If either
of these tests indicate the potential presence of a problem, replace the
bearing.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
2. Remove the wheel knuckle.
3.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the brake disc shield.
4.
Use the special tools to remove the wheel hub.
Special Tool(s): 204-726, JLR-204-811
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
5.
Use a suitable tool to reposition the inner race of the wheel bearing to
allow the special tool to be installed.
General Equipment: Vise
General Equipment: Copper Hammer
General Equipment: Punch
6.
Use the special tool to remove the inner race of the wheel bearing.
Special Tool(s): 204-305
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
7.
Clean all the mating faces and reusable parts thoroughly and check for
damage.
8.
Remove the circlip.
9.
NOTE:
Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.
Use the special tool to remove the wheel bearing.

INSTALLATION
1.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign
material.
NOTE:
Make sure that the component is installed to the noted removal position.
- Make sure the new wheel bearing is installed with the wheel speed sensor
ring facing inward.
- Use the special tools to install the wheel bearing.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-808, JLR-204-807
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
2.
Install the circlip with the gap towards the bottom the wheel knuckle.
3.
Use the special tools to install the wheel hub.
Special Tool(s): 204-726
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
4.
- Install the brake disc shield.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 10Nm
5. Install the wheel knuckle.

2. Remove the front wheel knuckle.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the front brake disc shield.
4.
CAUTIONS:
- Do not attempt to release the wheel hub and bearing assembly by
hitting it directly with a
hammer. Loosen the wheel hub retaining bolts as illustrated before applying
an even amount of
force to the head of each bolt to release the wheel hub from the wheel
knuckle. Failure to follow
this instruction may cause damage to the components.
- Make sure to restrain the wheel knuckle correctly. Failure to follow
this instruction may cause
damage to the component.
- Take extra care not to damage the component.
- Loosen, but do not remove the 4 bolts as illustrated.
General Equipment: Vise
General Equipment: Vise jaw protectors
- Release the wheel hub and bearing assembly.
- Remove the wheel hub and bearing assembly.
- Discard the wheel hub and bearing assembly retaining bolts.
5.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign
material.
Clean and inspect the wheel knuckle for damage or deterioration.
INSTALLATION
1.
CAUTIONS:
- Make sure to restrain the wheel knuckle correctly. Failure to follow
this instruction may cause
damage to the component.
- Take extra care not to damage the component.
- Install the wheel hub and bearing assembly.
- Tighten the 4 bolts in the sequence illustrated.
General Equipment: Vise
General Equipment: Vise jaw protectors
Renew Part: Wheel bearing bolts Quantity: 4.
Torque
- Stage1: 30Nm
- Stage2: 60Nm
- Stage3: 90Nm
- Stage4: 120º
2.
- Install the front brake disc shield.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 10Nm
3. Install the front wheel knuckle.
