Land Rover Defender: Rear Door
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains illustrations for left hand drive vehicles,
right hand drive vehicles are similar.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Remove the rear door lower moulding.
3. Remove the rear door window.
4. Remove the rear door latch.
5. Remove the rear door weatherstrip.
6.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the rear door check arm.
7.
Disconnect the rear door wiring harness from the body wiring harness.
8.
CAUTIONS:
- Lay the rear door on felt covered supports.
- The component(s) may be heavy. Take extra care when handling.
NOTE:
This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the rear door.
9.
NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Release the 10 clips.
- Remove the rear door upper trim panel as illustrated.
10.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the rear door window regulator.
11.
- Release the 8 clips.
- Remove the fixed window trim.
12.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the rear door fixed window.
13.
Remove the rubber access cover.
14.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove the rear door check arm.
15.
- Release the 12 wiring harness clips.
- Release the 2 grommets.
- Remove the rear door wiring harness.
16.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 rear door hinges.
17.
- Release the 16 clips.
- Remove the rear door upper weatherstrip.
18.
Remove the rear door frame finisher as illustrated.
19.
- Release the 4 clips.
- Remove the rear door moulding.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the rear door moulding.
2. Install the rear door frame finisher.
3. Install the rear door upper weatherstrip.
4.
- Install the 2 rear door hinges.
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
Torque: 35Nm
5.
- Install the rear door wiring harness.
- Install the 2 grommets.
- Install the 12 wiring harness clips.
6.
- Install the rear door check arm.
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
Torque: 9Nm
7. Install the access cover.
8.
- Install the rear door fixed window.
- Install and tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 1.2Nm
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 3Nm
9. Install the fixed window trim.
10.
- Install the rear door window regulator.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 7Nm
11. Install the rear door upper trim panel.
12.
CAUTION:
The component(s) may be heavy. Take extra care when handling.
NOTE:
This step requires the aid of another technician.
13.
- Connect the rear door check arm.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 25Nm
14. Connect the rear door wiring harness to the body wiring harness.
15. Install the rear door lower moulding.
16. Install the rear door window.
17. Install the rear door latch.
18. Install the rear door weatherstrip.
19. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
