GENERAL EQUIPMENT

REMOVAL
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1.
CAUTION:
Failure to follow this step may result in damage to the crankshaft rear oil
seal.
The existing special tool JLR-303-1674 must be modified as illustrated before
use.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674
2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
4. Remove the drive plate.
5.
CAUTIONS:
- Make sure to align the special tool with the locating dowel.
- Make sure the protruding depth of the drill bit is double-checked
after the tightening of the drill
bit.
- Make sure the hole to be drilled is aligned in between 9 and 3
o'clock positions.
- Install the spacer to the drill bit and use the notch on the special
tool to tighten the drill bit in the
correct depth.

General Equipment: Electric drill
- Install the special tool to the end of the crankshaft.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1712
- Install and hand-tighten the 3 bolts.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1712
- Drill through the upper hole of the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1712
- Remove the special tool.
6.
INSTALLATION
1.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign
material.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674A
2.
CAUTION:
- If the seal is removed from the spacer provided, a new seal must be
installed.
- Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of
foreign material.
NOTE:
The component labeled (2) in the illustration is an alignment spacer provided
with the new seal.
Position the new crankshaft oil seal (1) and spacer (2) over special tool
JLR-303-1674A. Carefully slide the
crankshaft oil seal (1) over the end of the crankshaft and discard the spacer
(2).
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674A
Renew Part: Crankshaft rear seal Quantity: 1.

4. Install the drive plate.
5. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
