Land Rover Defender: Front Silencer
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL
WARNING:
Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.
CAUTION:
Make sure the exhaust system is supported at all times.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

WARNING:
This step requires the aid of another technician.
- Remove and discard the exhaust clamp.
- Remove the 4 exhaust hanger mounting bracket bolts.
- Release the rear silencer from the 2 exhaust hanger bracket mounting
rubbers.
- Remove the rear exhaust section.

NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
Remove the 2 exhaust hanger mounting brackets.

- Use a suitable tool to cut and remove the front silencer in the marked
position as illustrated.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the 2 exhaust hanger mounting brackets.

WARNING:
This step requires the aid of another technician.
NOTE:
Steps 3-4 are only required if previously removed.
- Install the front silencer.
- Install and tighten the 4 exhaust hanger mounting bracket bolts.
Torque: 27.5Nm
- Fully tighten the front exhaust clamp.
Torque: 55Nm

NOTE:
This step is only required if the component was removed for access.
- Install the rear exhaust section.
- Install and tighten the 4 exhaust hanger mounting bracket bolts.
Torque: 27.5Nm
- Align the rear exhaust section into the correct location.
- Fully tighten the front exhaust clamp.
