Land Rover Defender: Installation
1.
WARNING:
Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.
NOTE:
Complete step only for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.
Vehicles with 110 wheelbase only. Use appropriate tooling to cut away the 2
arrowed metal strips.
- Removing the metal strips will make drilling the 2 holes in step 3
easier.

WARNING:

Complete step only for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
Vehicles with 90 wheelbase only. Use appropriate tooling to cut away the 2
arrowed metal strips.
- Removing the metal strips will make drilling the 2 holes in step 4
easier.

WARNING:
Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.
NOTE:
Complete step only for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.
Vehicles with 110 wheelbase only. Drill 2 holes in the removed side trim as
illustrated.
- Drill a pilot hole at the 2 marked locations.
- Drill holes at the 2 locations. Use a 19 mm drill bit.

Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.
NOTE:
Complete step only for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
Vehicles with 90 wheelbase only. Drill 2 holes in the removed side trim as
illustrated.
- Drill a pilot hole at the 2 marked locations.
- Drill holes at the 2 locations. Use a 19 mm drill bit.
5.
CAUTION:
Make sure the seal is lipped under the glass.
NOTE:
Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles
with 90 wheelbase.
Install the side trim to the vehicle as illustrated.
6. Remove the masking tape from the side of the vehicle.

CAUTION:
Make sure the brackets are installed in the correct orientation.
NOTES:
- All roof rail mounted accessories must be removed before the
deployable roof ladder is installed.
- Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for
vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
Install the 2 brackets (B) into the roof rail as illustrated. Make sure the
orientation of the brackets is correct. The
arrowed surface of the bracket is larger and must face towards the center of the
vehicle.
- Insert the brackets into the roof rail as illustrated. The roof rail has
wider apertures that allow the brackets
to be installed into the roof rail.
- Slide the brackets to the approximate correct position so they align
with the holes in the side trim.

NOTES:
- This step requires the aid of another person.
- Make sure the ladder does not damage the vehicle trim. Install some
protection to the ladder to
make sure there is a gap between the ladder and the vehicle trim.
- Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for
vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
Install the top part of the deployable roof ladder to the vehicle and the 2
brackets (B).
- Align the fixing holes at the top of the deployable roof ladder with the
2 brackets (B) in the roof rails.
- Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 bolts (F). The bolts will pass
through the spacer (C), the fixing holes in
the deployable roof ladder and then into the bracket (B).

WARNING:
Take care when deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that fingers do
not get trapped by
the ladder. It is advisable to hold the middle rung of the deployable roof
ladder when deploying the
ladder.
CAUTION:
For vehicles with 110 wheelbase, make sure the edge of the ladder does not
overlap the rubber seal
along the edge of the second row door. There must be a gap between the ladder
and the rubber seal.
NOTES:
- This step requires the aid of another person.
- Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for
vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
Align the 2 fixing holes in the middle section of the deployable roof ladder
with the 2 holes in the side trim.
- Hold the arrowed middle step of the deployable roof ladder and pull the
release handle.
- Pull down the deployable roof ladder to the illustrated position.
- Move the deployable roof ladder along the roof rail, as required, so the
2 fixing holes in the middle section
of the ladder align with the 2 holes in the side trim.
- For vehicles with 110 wheelbase, make sure the arrowed edge of the
ladder does not overlap the rubber
seal along the edge of the second row door. There must be a gap between the
ladder and the rubber
seal. Adjust if required.
- Make sure the 2 holes in the side trim are visible through the ladder.
- For vehicles with 110 wheelbase, carefully open and close the second row
door to make sure the edge of
the ladder does not interfere with the rubber seal along the edge of the
second row door.
10.
NOTE:
Make sure there is a consistent gap between the deployable roof ladder and the
vehicle body.
Secure the middle part of the deployable roof ladder to the vehicle body.
- Install the 2 sleeves (E) into the holes in the side trim.
- Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 bolts (H), the 2 spacers (D) and
the 2 spacers (G). The bolts (H) will
be pass through the spacer (D), the fixing holes in the middle of the
deployable roof ladder, the spacer
(G) and then into the sleeve (F) in the side trim.
11. Fully tighten the 2 bolts (F) at the top of the deployable roof ladder.
12. Fully tighten the 2 bolts (H) at the middle of the deployable roof
ladder.
13. Remove the protection from around the ladder.

WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder. It is advisable to hold the arrowed middle rung of the
deployable roof ladder
when latching the ladder shut or deploying the ladder.
Move the deployable roof ladder to the stowed position.
15.
Install the top cover (J) to the deployable roof ladder as illustrated.

WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder. It is advisable to hold the arrowed middle rung of the
deployable roof ladder
when latching the ladder shut or deploying the ladder.
Follow steps 17 and 18 for instructions on how to deploy the deployable roof
ladder.

WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder. It is advisable to hold the arrowed middle rung of the
deployable roof ladder
when latching the ladder shut or deploying the ladder.
Open the deployable roof ladder to the first position as illustrated.
- Hold the arrowed middle step of the deployable roof ladder.
- Pull the release handle.
- Pull the deployable roof ladder down and outwards until the arrowed
brackets lock and the ladder will not
move further.
18.
WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder.
CAUTION:
Make sure the correct stowing sequence is followed to prevent damage to the
deployable roof ladder.
Extend the deployable roof ladder to the full length as illustrated.
- Hold the arrowed top step and pull the deployable roof ladder outwards.
- Extend the deployable roof ladder to the full length.
19.
WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder.
CAUTION:
Make sure the correct stowing sequence is followed to prevent damage to the
deployable roof ladder.
When not in use make sure the deployable roof ladder is installed securely
and is locked in the stowed
position.
- Follow steps 20 and 21 to stow the deployable roof ladder correctly.
20.
WARNING:
Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to make sure that
fingers do not get
trapped by the ladder.
CAUTION:
Make sure the correct stowing sequence is followed to prevent damage to the
deployable roof ladder.
- Hold the lowest step of the deployable roof ladder and fold the ladder
upwards.
- Make sure the deployable roof is positioned as illustrated.
21.
WARNINGS:
- Take care when stowing or deploying the deployable roof ladder to
make sure that fingers do not
get trapped by the ladder. It is advisable to hold the middle rung of the
deployable roof ladder when
latching the ladder shut or deploying the ladder.
- Make sure that the deployable roof ladder is securely latched and
locked before driving the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Make sure the correct stowing sequence is followed to prevent damage to the
deployable roof ladder.
- Hold the arrowed middle step of the deployable roof ladder.
- Push the deployable roof ladder up and inwards. The arrowed brackets
will release allowing the ladder to
move.
- An audible click is heard when the deployable roof ladder is correctly
stowed as illustrated.
- Use the supplied key (K) to lock the deployable roof ladder.
