Land Rover Defender: Removal

1.

WARNING: If a suitable 4 post lift is not available then refer to the wheel changing section of the owner's handbook.

CAUTION: Make sure to use the front and rear subframe jacking points.

NOTE: Complete this step for all vehicle variants.

Make sure the ramp legs are positioned so they do not obstruct the fixed side step or side tube installation location.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 4 post lift. The front and rear subframe jacking points must be used. Do not use the sill jacking points.

2. Complete removal steps 3 to 29 if the fixed side steps or the side tubes are being installed to vehicles with 90 or 110 wheelbase.

NOTES:

Remove the front fender moulding. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

NOTE: Make sure to retain all fixings.

Remove the 2 lower clips.

Release the 2 upper clips.

Remove the front fender moulding bracket.

NOTE: Make sure to retain all fixings.

Remove the deflector on both sides of the vehicle.

Remove the rear fender moulding on vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

CAUTION: Clips may be damaged during removal. Replace clips if they are damaged.

Aside the rear wheel arch liner moulding as illustrated to allow access. This step is only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

CAUTION: Clips may be damaged during removal. Replace clips if they are damaged.

Remove the 9 retaining clips.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.

NOTE: Vehicles with 90 wheelbase will have 11 clips. Vehicles with 110 wheelbase will have 12 clips.

Remove the retaining clips, remove the rocker panel.

NOTE: Make sure to retain all fixings.

Remove the fixings as illustrated to allow part of the soft undershield to be moved aside.

NOTE: Make sure to retain all fixings.

  1. Remove the transmission undershield cover.
  2. Move aside the required area of the soft undershield to allow the left and right undershield fixings to be accessed in the following step.

Remove the 2 undershields as illustrated.

Identify the cut guide lines on the left side rocker panel.

CAUTION: Make sure to follow the cut guide lines as illustrated.

NOTE: Left side rocker panel shown for vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Cutting process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Fixed Side Steps and Side Tubes

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the left side rocker panel. Discard the removed sections.

  1. Drill holes at the illustrated locations.
  2. Use the cut guide lines on the rocker panel.

CAUTION: Make sure to follow the cut guide lines as illustrated.

NOTE: Right side rocker panel shown for vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Cutting process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Fixed Side Steps and Side Tubes

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the right side rocker panel. Discard the removed sections.

  1. Drill holes at the illustrated locations.
  2. Use the cut guide lines on the rocker panel.

Position the left side rocker panel over the top of the left undershield as illustrated.

CAUTION: Make sure to carefully mark the sections of the undershield that will be cut.

NOTE: Left side rocker panel and undershield shown for vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Fixed Side Steps and Side Tubes

Use the left side rocker panel as a template to define the 2 sections of the left undershield that will be cut, as illustrated.

  1. Make sure the holes in the rocker panel align with the matching holes in the undershield.
  2. Mark the cut guide lines on the undershield using the rocker panel as a template.

21. Remove the rocker panel from above the undershield.

NOTE: Left side undershield shown for vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Make sure the cut guide lines have a depth of 50 mm as illustrated.

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the left undershield. Discard the removed sections.

24. Complete steps 18 to 21 for the right side undershield using the right side rocker panel as a template.

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the right undershield. Discard the removed sections.
