Land Rover Defender: Steering Column Switches
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
CAUTION:
Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT acceptable. Substitution
of control modules does not
guarantee confirmation of a fault, and may also cause additional faults in the
vehicle being tested and/or the
donor vehicle.
STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
WARNING:
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Remove the steering wheel.
3.
Remove the 2 bolts.
4.
Release the 2 clips.
5.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the steering column multifunction switch.
INSTALLATION
1.
CAUTION:
Take extra care when handling the component. Failure to follow this instruction
might result in
damage to the component.
- Inspect the component for the correct zero position alignment:
- Align the two triangle alignment marks together, highlighted with blue.
- If the component is aligned correctly, a yellow/white roller is visible
in the inspection window,
highlighted with yellow.
- If a black/blue roller is visible in the inspection window, the
component is rotated 360º away from the
correct zero position.
- Make sure that the correct alignment is maintained through the
installation of the component.

NOTE:
Make sure the 2 clips are correctly installed.
- Install the steering column multifunction switch.
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Install the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 2.5Nm
3. Install the steering wheel.
4. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
