Land Rover Defender: Air Conditioning Compressor Commissioning

GENERAL PROCEDURES

ACTIVATION

CAUTION: Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.

1. Set the ignition to the on position, make sure the Air Conditioning (A/C) is in the off position.

2. Start the engine and allow to run for a minimum of 5 minutes.

3. Set the heater controls to 22ºC, with the fan speed set to 75%.

4. Switch on the A/C system.

5. Open all air vents in the instrument panel.

6. Run the A/C system for a minimum of 5 minutes, while the engine is still at idle speed.

7. Once this is achieved the compressor is stabilized, with the oil being distributed evenly throughout the system.

REPAIR

WARNINGS:

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTES:

WARNING: Always follow the health and safety precautions when handling the refrigerant.

EVACUATION

1.

Air Conditioning System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging

Remove the 2 covers from the 2 A/C charging ports.

2.

WARNING: Following the manufacturer's instructions, evacuate the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.

3. Disconnect the HP and LP hose from the 2 A/C charging ports.

CHARGING

WARNING: Following the manufacturer's instructions, charging the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.

2.

3. Disconnect the HP and LP hose from the 2 A/C charging ports.

4. Install and tighten the 2 charging port covers.
