Land Rover Defender: Constant Velocity Joint Boot Kit

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Constant Velocity Joint Boot Kit

Puller, General Purpose

REMOVAL

NOTE:

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

2. Remove the rear halfshaft.

3. Position the halfshaft in a suitable vice equipped with soft jaws to prevent damaging the halfshaft.

Use a soft faced mallet to remove the inner CV joint from the halfshaft.

Use a suitable punch to reposition the bearings along the halfshaft to allow the circlip to be removed.

Remove and discard the circlip.

Use the special tool to remove the bearings.

Remove and discard the inner CV joint boot.

11. Clean and inspect the components and replace if damaged or worn.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the new outer Constant Velocity (CV) joint boot onto the halfshaft.

2. Install the new inner CV joint boot onto the halfshaft.

3. Use a suitable punch to carefully install the bearings to the halfshaft. Make sure the circlip can be correctly located in the groove.

4. Install the new circlip.

5. Use a soft faced mallet to install the inner CV joint to the halfshaft.

6. Fill the inner and outer CV joints with the grease supplied. Make sure the bearings are fully coated with grease.

Constant Velocity Joint Boot Kit

Position the inner and outer CV joint boots in the correct locations on the halfshaft and CV joints.

8. Use a suitable tool to install the new CV boot clamps. Make sure the clamps are correctly located on the CV boots.

9. Remove the halfshaft from the vice.

10. Install the rear halfshaft.
