REMOVAL

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

2. Remove the fuel injectors.

Loosen, but do not fully remove the 4 bolts.

Remove the 2 bolts.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Install the special tools as illustrated.

Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1647

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

NOTE:

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Remove and discard the gasket.

8.

CAUTION: Take extra care when handling the component.

NOTE: This step is only required if the CVVL is removed for access, and not being replaced with a new CVVL assembly.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Use the special tool to reset the 8 CVVL brakes.

Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1639

INSTALLATION

1.

CAUTION: Make sure the CVVL assembly is not inverted.

NOTE: Components shown inverted for clarity.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Install a new gasket.

Renew Part: Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) Assembly Gasket Quantity: 1.

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and free from debris and foreign material.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Tighten the 2 bolts in the illustrated sequence until contact between the bolt head and the CVVL assembly has been made, and then further tighten the 2 bolts 2 full revolutions.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Tighten the 2 bolts in the illustrated sequence.

Torque: 6Nm

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Remove the special tools.

Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1647

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 bolts.

7.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Tighten the 10 bolts in the illustrated sequence.

Torque: 12Nm

8. Install the fuel injectors.

9. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

10. Use the approved Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic equipment to complete the CVVL software calibration.

Continuous Variable Valve Lift

Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel injector wiring harness.

13. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel injector wiring harness.

14. Use the approved Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) diagnostic equipment to read and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

15.

CAUTION: Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.

Run the engine at idle for 1 minute to allow the correct oil pressure to be obtained within the CVVL assembly.
