Land Rover Defender: Generator - Removal and Installation
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
3. Remove the charge air cooler.
4.
Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
5.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
6.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the charge air cooler bracket and the 2 spacers.
7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
8.
- Remove the bolt cover.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
9.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
10.
- Release the nut cover.
- Remove the nut.
- Detach the wiring harness from the generator.
11.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the generator.

NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the generator wiring harness.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Install the generator wiring harness.
- Connect the electrical connector.
2.
- Install the generator.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 47Nm
3.
- Install the wiring harness to the generator.
- Install and tighten the nut.
Torque: 12Nm
- Reposition the nut cover.
4.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the 3 wiring harness clips.
5.
- Install the idler pulley.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 47Nm
- Install the bolt cover.
6. Install the accessory drive belt.
7.
- Install the charge air cooler bracket and the 2 spacers.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 47Nm
8.
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
Torque: 47Nm
- Install the wiring harness clip.
9. Install the 3 wiring harness clips to the charge air cooler bracket.
10. Install the charge air cooler.
11. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
