Land Rover Defender: Rear Bumper
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
2. Remove both rear wheel arch liners.
3.
Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
4.
Disconnect the washer hose.
5.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
Remove the 2 screws and the bolt.
6.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Release the 2 rear wheel arch trim clips
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
7.
- Remove the 7 screws.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
8.
- Release the left side of the bumper cover from the mounting bracket.
- Release the right side of the bumper cover from the mounting bracket.
- Release the center of the bumper cover from the mounting bracket.
9.
With assistance, remove the rear bumper cover.

NOTE:
Only complete the following steps if a new component is to be installed.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
11.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 5 wiring harness clips.
12.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 5 wiring harness clips.
13.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Release the 6 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the bumper wiring harness.
14.
- Disconnect the washer hose.
- Release the 5 washer hose clips.
- Remove the washer hose.
15.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the remaining rear park assist sensors.
Release the 2 clips and remove the rear park assist sensor.

NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Remove the 3 rear lamp assembly screws.
- Remove the rear lamp assembly.
- Remove the 3 rear bumper corner cover screws.
17.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Release the 7 clips.
- Remove the rear bumper corner cover.
18.
Remove the 3 lower trim panel screws.
19.
- Release the 8 clips.
- Remove the lower trim panel.
20.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the rear proximity camera assembly.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Install the rear proximity camera assembly.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
2.
- Install the lower trim panel.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 3Nm
3.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Install the rear bumper corner cover.
- Install and tighten the 3 rear bumper corner cover screws.
Torque: 3Nm
4.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Install the rear lamp assembly.
- Install and tighten the 3 rear lamp assembly screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
5. Install the 6 rear park assist sensors.
6.
- Install the washer hose.
- Connect the washer hose.
- Install the 5 washer hose clips.
7.
- Install the bumper wiring harness.
- Connect the 12 electrical connectors.
- Install the 19 electrical wiring harness clips.
8. With assistance, install the rear bumper cover.
9.
- Install the center of the bumper cover to the 9 clips.
- Install the left side of the bumper cover to the 5 clips.
- Install the right side of the bumper cover to the 5 clips.
10.
- Install and tighten the 7 screws.
Torque: 3Nm
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 9Nm
11.
NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
Install and tighten the 2 screws and the bolt.
Torque

NOTE:
This step must be completed for both sides of the vehicle.
- Install the 2 rear wheel arch trim clips
- Connect the electrical connector.
13.
Connect the washer hose.
14.
Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
15. Install both rear wheel arch liners.
