Land Rover Defender: Rear Door Module
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
GENERAL EQUIPMENT
REMOVAL
WARNING:
To avoid accidental deployment, the Restraints Control Module (RCM) backup power
supply must be
depleted. Wait at least 1 minute after disconnecting the startup battery ground
cable(s) before doing any
repair or adjustment to the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), or any
component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right
side components are similar.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
1. Make the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) safe.
2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
3. Remove the rear door trim panel.
4.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the rear door module.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Remove the rear door module.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Install the rear door module.
- Install and tighten the 2 screws.
Torque: 2Nm
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the rear door module.
- Install the wiring harness clip.
2. Install the rear door trim panel.
3. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
4. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to configure
the new rear door module.

Remote Function Actuator

removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2.
Move the front row left seat as illustrated.
3.
Release the rear floor carpet for access to the Remote Function Actuator
(RFA) cover.
4.
Remove the RFA cover as illustrated.
5.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the RFA.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove the RFA.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Install the RFA.
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
- Torque: 3.2Nm
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the RFA.
2. Install the RFA cover to the 4 clips.
3. Reposition the rear floor carpet to the original position.
4. Position the front row left seat to the otiginal position.
5. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

NOTE:
This step is only required if a new component is installed.
