Land Rover Defender: Rear Parking Aid Sensor
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- The ignition must be switched off.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
2. With assistance, remove the rear bumper.
3.
NOTE:
The following 2 steps show the rear inner parking aid sensor only.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear inner parking aid sensor.
4.
Release the 2 clips and remove the rear inner parking aid sensor.
5.
NOTE:
The following 2 steps show the rear outer parking aid sensor only.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear outer parking aid sensor.
6.
Release the 2 clips and remove the rear outer parking aid sensor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTIONS:
- If a new parking aid sensor is installed, make sure that the membrane
and the cylindrical edge of the
membrane must be covered with a paint layer of at least 2 mm all the way
around as illustrated.
- The whole paint film thickness on the membranes is up to a maximum of
120 micrometers (including the
electro-coated layer) to make sure a proper sensor function.
- This is also valid for the multiple layer paints.

Check the paint layer of the rear inner parking aid sensor.

CAUTIONS:
- Inspect the ring, replace if damaged.
- Make sure that the ring is correctly located to the sensor.
Before installing the rear inner parking aid sensor, check the condition and
the position of the ring.

NOTE:
The following 2 steps show the rear outer parking aid sensor only.
Check the paint layer of the rear outer parking aid sensor.

CAUTIONS:
- Inspect the ring, replace if damaged.
- Make sure that the ring is correctly located to the sensor.
Before installing the rear outer parking aid sensor, check the condition and
the position of the ring.
5.
NOTE:
Make sure that the rear parking aid sensor is correctly located to the bracket.
Audible clicks will be
heard to confirm connection.
- Install the rear parking aid sensor.
- Connect the electrical connector to the rear parking aid sensor.
6. With assistance, install the rear bumper.

cable(s) before doing any
repair or adjustment to the Supplem

To prevent accidental deployment, you must power down the Restraints
Control Module (RCM). Wait at
least 1 minute after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable before
you do any work on the
Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). If you do not
