Land Rover Defender: Third Row Seat
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
WARNINGS:
- To avoid accidental deployment, the Restraints Control Module (RCM)
backup power supply must be
depleted. Wait at least 1 minute after disconnecting the startup battery
ground cable(s) before doing any
repair or adjustment to the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), or any
component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal
injury.
- Do not probe Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) electrical
connectors.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Make the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) safe.
3.
Remove the loadspace floor trim.
4.
Remove the loadspace liner tray.
5.
NOTE:
This step needs to be completed both sides.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 fixed anchor points.
6.
NOTE:
This step needs to be completed both sides.
- Remove the 3 clips.
- Remove the loadspace lower side trim.
7.
Disconnect the third row seat electrical connector.
8.
Remove the 2 rear seat track bolts.
9.
- Remove the 4 clips.
- Reposition the rear floor carpet.
10.
Remove the 2 Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) battery cooling duct clips.
11.
Release and remove the third row seat footwell air duct as illustrated.
12.
Remove the 2 front seat track bolts.
13.
Fold the left and right third row seat backrest.
14.
Remove the third row seat 4 side bolts.
15.
WARNING:
The components may be heavy or awkward to handle. The assistance of another
technician will
be required.
CAUTIONS:
- Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
- Protect the surrounding trim to avoid damage.
With assistance, remove the third row seat assembly.
INSTALLATION

- Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
- Protect the surrounding trim to avoid damage.
With assistance, install the third row seat assembly.
2.
- Install and tighten the third row seat 4 side bolts.
Torque: 40Nm
3. Fold the left and right third row seat backrest.
4. Install and tighten the 2 front seat track bolts.
Torque: 40Nm
5. Install the third row seat footwell air duct.
6. Install the 2 Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) battery cooling duct
clips.
7.
- Reposition the rear floor carpet.
- Install the 4 clips.
8. Install and tighten the 2 rear seat track bolts.
Torque: 50Nm
9. Connect the third row seat electrical connector.
10.
NOTE:
This step needs to be completed both sides.
- Install the loadspace lower side trim.
- Install the 3 clips.
11.
NOTE:
This step needs to be completed both sides.
- Install the 2 fixed anchor points.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 24Nm
12. Install the loadspace liner tray.
13. Install the loadspace floor trim.
14. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
