Land Rover Defender: Transfer Case Draining and Filling
GENERAL PROCEDURES

DRAINING
CAUTION:
Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
2. Remove the left undershield.
3. Position a container to collect the fluid.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign
material.
- Remove the transfer case drain plug.
- Remove and discard the sealing washer.
5. Allow the fluid to drain.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign
material.
- Remove the transfer case filler plug.
- Remove and discard the sealing washer.
3. Fill the transfer case with the correct specification of fluid, until the
fluid is level with the bottom of the filler
plug hole.

5. Clean the area around the filler plug, wipe away any excess fluid and
remove the container.
6. Install the left undershield.
