Land Rover Defender: Brake Disc 2 Piston Floating Caliper
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Brake discs must be renewed in axle sets.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
1. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment to activate
the Integrated Power Brake
assembly mode.

2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
3. Remove the wheels and tires.
4.
- Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor from the brake pad.
- Release the pad wear sensor grommet and position the component to one
side.

CAUTIONS:
- Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the
brake caliper assembly.
- Do not allow the brake caliper to hang on the brake pad wear sensor
lead.
NOTE:
Note the orientation and alignment of the cooling scoop.
6.
- Remove and discard the bolt.
- Remove the brake disc.
INSTALLATION
1.
Clean and inspect the brake disc shield.

Use brake cleaner fluid to clean the brake disc.

WARNING:
Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction
materials can be harmful
if inhaled.
Use brake cleaning fluid to clean the brake caliper and brake caliper
carrier.

NOTE:
This step should only be done if new brake discs are installed.
If new discs are installed, install new brake pads.
6.
CAUTIONS:
- Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted and is correctly
located.
- Make sure that new bolts are installed.
NOTE:
Make sure the cooling scoop is aligned and installed in the correct orientation.
7.
- Connect the brake pad wear sensor to the brake pad.
- Secure the pad wear sensor grommet.
8. Install the front wheel.
9. Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment and disable the Integrated
Power Brake assembly mode.
10. Press the brake pedal several times, check the fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir and top-up with brake
fluid if necessary.
