REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an airbag Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS) vehicle and
when handling an airbag.
- Never probe the connectors on the airbag. Doing so may result in
airbag deployment. Failure to follow
this instruction may result in personal injury.
- To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the
backup power supply must be depleted
before repairing or replacing any airbag SRS components. To deplete the
backup power supply energy,
disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute. Failure to follow
this instruction may result in
personal injury.
- Take extra care when handling supplemental restraint system (SRS)
components.
- To minimize the possibility of premature deployment, do not use radio
key code savers when working on
the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). Failure to follow this instruction
may result in personal injury.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- In North American markets it is normal for the passenger airbag to
remain active for lighter occupants as
it meets Low Risk Deployment requirements. The airbag deactivation light
will not be illuminated with
lighter occupants in the seat.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
1. Make the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) safe.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the instrument panel upper trim.
The following step(s) applies to:
Non NAS vehicles
4.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the passenger airbag.
The following step(s) applies to:
NAS vehicles
5.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the passenger airbag.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
6.
- Remove the 8 nuts.
- Remove the passenger airbag.
INSTALLATION
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
1.
- Install the passenger airbag.
- Install and tighten the 8 nuts.
Torque: 4.8Nm

NAS vehicles
2. Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
The following step(s) applies to:
Non NAS vehicles
3. Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
4. Install the instrument panel upper trim.
5. Connect the battery ground cable.
