Land Rover Defender: Rear Scuff Plate

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
WARNING:
Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the
instructions carefully prior to
installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your
nearest approved retailer.
CAUTIONS:
- If protective wax has been applied to the vehicle it must be
thoroughly removed before starting this
procedure.
- The vehicle must be clean, dry and at workshop temperature. Vehicles
moved into the workshop from cold
or wet conditions should be dried and left to stand for a minimum of 2
hours.
NOTE:
This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the
vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
INSTALLATION
1.
Open the tailgate.
2.
Fold out the rear scuff plate cardboard box to reveal the template.
3.
Cut out and remove the cardboard template (D) from the cardboard box.
4.
Install the cardboard template (D).
- Install the cardboard template into position as illustrated.
- Attach suitable tape to the inner part of the cardboard template above
the perforated edge as illustrated.
5.
Tear along the perforated edge to remove the outer part of the cardboard
template. Only the inner part of the
template should remain on the vehicle as illustrated.
6.
WARNING:
Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment when using cleaner or
adhesion promoter
in the following steps.
CAUTION:
Allow to dry for a minimum of 2 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Using the supplied cleaner (B), clean the illustrated area.
7.
CAUTION:
Allow to dry for a minimum of 5 minutes before proceeding to next step.
Apply the supplied adhesion promoter (C) to the illustrated area.
8.
CAUTION:
Make sure the orientation of the rear scuff plate is lined up with the cardboard
template (D).
Install the rear scuff plate (A) to the bumper.
- Align the rear scuff plate to the cardboard template.
- Push the rear scuff plate against the cardboard template.
- Push down on the rear scuff plate to make sure the rear scuff plate is
firmly on the bumper.
9.
CAUTION:
Control the aligned position when peeling away the adhesion strip backing.
NOTE:
Firmly push the edges of the rear scuff plate along its length to make sure
there is good adhesion to
the bumper.
Remove the protective tape from the adhesive strip on the rear scuff plate
(A).
- Remove the lower protection tape by pulling the tab at the side of the
scuff plate.
- Remove the upper protection tape.
10.
CAUTION:
Make sure to protect the paintwork.
Remove the cardboard template (D) from the bumper and discard.
- Remove the tape from the cardboard template.
- Remove the cardboard template and discard.
11.
Check the rear scuff plate is installed correctly as illustrated. Remove the
rear scuff plate protective layer.
