Land Rover Defender: Wheel Arch Protection

WHEEL ARCH PROTECTION - PART NUMBER: 90: VPLEP0381, VPLEP0382, 110: VPLEP0379, VPLEP0380

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

WARNING: Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.

REMOVAL

1.

CAUTION: Replace any missing clips.

NOTE: Note if the part is for the left or right side of the vehicle by observing the marking on the reverse side.

Wheel Arch Protection

Check all of the clips shown are present and seated correctly.

2. Prepare the left side of the vehicle by following removal steps 3 to 15.

CAUTIONS:

Remove the front wheel arch trim.

4. Open the rear door.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Remove the rear wheel arch trim.

NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Wheel Arch Protection

For vehicles with 90 wheelbase, remove the lower door cladding. Ask your Jaguar Land Rover Retailer for a copy of this instruction if you do not have access to TOPIx.

NOTE: This step is only applicable to vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Wheel Arch Protection

Remove the rear wheel arch trim.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Remove the illustrated side trim from the rear door.

NOTES:

Wheel Arch Protection

Install the front wheel arch protector (A) for masking purposes only.

Wheel Arch Protection

Apply suitable tape to mask the top edge of the front wheel arch protector on the vehicle body. Remove the front wheel arch protector.

Install the rear wheel arch protector (B) for masking purposes only.

Install the rear wheel arch protector (C) for masking purposes only.

NOTE: Illustrations show vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Wheel Arch Protection

Apply suitable tape to mask the top edge of the wheel arch protector on the vehicle body. Remove the wheel arch protector.

Install the rear wheel arch protector (D) for masking purposes only.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Wheel Arch Protection

Using suitable tape mask the top edge of the wheel arch protector on the rear door. Remove the wheel arch protector.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the wheel arch protection to the left side of the vehicle by following install steps 2 to 22.

NOTE: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment when using cleaner or adhesion promoter in the following steps.

Wheel Arch Protection

Using the cleaner supplied in the kit (E) clean in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Using the cleaner supplied in the kit (E) clean in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

Using the cleaner supplied in the kit (E) clean in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

CAUTION: Wait for a minimum of 2 minutes before proceeding to next step.

NOTE: To activate the adhesion promoter, hold the tube between your finger and thumb, squeeze the middle of the tube until you here a crack noise, shake the tube gently and the fluid will flow to the tip.

Using the adhesion promoter supplied in the kit (F) wipe in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Using the adhesion promoter supplied in the kit (F) wipe in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

Using the adhesion promoter supplied in the kit (F) wipe in a 20 mm strip from the edge of the tape.

CAUTION: Wait for a minimum of 5 minutes before proceeding to next step.

10. Remove the masking tape from the front wheel arch.

NOTE: Additionally complete install step 12 for North American market vehicles.

Install the front wheel arch protector (A).

  1. Install the lower tabs into the vehicle body trim.
  2. Push the fixings into the vehicle body.

Connect the vehicle electrical connector to the front wheel arch protector indicator light plug.

While applying pressure to the wheel arch protector, peel away the backing from the adhesion strip.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Remove the masking tape from the rear door.

NOTE: Complete step only applicable for vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

Wheel Arch Protection

Install the rear wheel arch protector (D).

  1. Install the lower tab into the vehicle body trim.
  2. Push the fixings into the vehicle body. Listen for an audible click to confirm the wheel arch protector is correctly installed.

NOTES:

While applying pressure to the wheel arch protector, peel away the backing from the adhesion strip.

17. Remove the masking tape from the rear wheel arch.

Install the rear wheel arch protector (B).

  1. Install the lower tabs into the vehicle body trim.
  2. Push the fixings into the vehicle body.

Install the rear wheel arch protector (C).

  1. Install the lower tab into the vehicle body trim.
  2. Push the fixings into the vehicle body.

NOTE: When installing the new wheel arch protection is designed to not fit flush with existing trim and will have an over hang on the front and rear.

25. Repeat all the above install and removal steps to install the wheel arch protection to the right side of the vehicle.
