Land Rover Defender: Startup Battery Positive Cable
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with stowage compartment
1. Remove the front row right seat.
2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

NOTE:
This illustrations for left side components, right side components are similar.
Remove the 4 bolts on the right side.

CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the component.
NOTE:
This illustrations for left side components, right side components are similar.
Remove the floor console side trim panel at the 15 clips on the right side.
5.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the right side footwell lamp.
- Remove the right side footwell lamp.
6.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the right side footwell trim panel.
7. Remove the right side A-pillar lower trim panel.
8. Remove the front right side treadplate.
9.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Remove the front right floor mat.
10.
- Remove the 2 clips.
- Feed the wiring harness through the floor carpet.
- Remove the front right floor carpet.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles without stowage compartment
11. Remove the front row seat on both side.
12. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the right side footwell lamp.
- Remove the right side footwell lamp.

NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the right side footwell trim panel.
15.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the left side footwell lamp.
- Remove the left side footwell lamp.
16.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the left side footwell trim panel.
17. Remove the floor console.
18.
- Release the 6 clips.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Remove the instrument panel center trim.
19.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Remove the access cover as illustrated.
20. Remove the A-pillar lower trim panel on both side.
21. Remove the front treadplate on both side.

NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Remove the floor mat.
23.
- Remove the 4 clips.
- Feed the 2 wiring harnesses through the floor carpet.
- Remove the front floor carpet.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

- Remove the nut cover at the 4 clips.
- Remove the nut.
- Release the cable.
25.
Remove the battery cable lock as illustrated.
26. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
27. Remove the engine.
28. Remove the secondary bulkhead left panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with fuel fired booster heater
29. Remove the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH).
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles without fuel fired booster heater
30. Remove the secondary bulkhead right panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

- Remove the 2 covers.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Release the 2 cables.

- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the jump start terminal.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the jump start terminal at the clip.
33.
- Disconnect the 2 coolant hose connectors from the climate control
assembly.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the coolant pipe assembly.

- Release the brake pipe from the clip.
- Release the startup battery positive cable clip.
- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the right lower secondary bulkhead panel.
35.
- Release the wiring harness grommet.
- Release the clip.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the left lower secondary bulkhead panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
Left hand drive vehicles
36.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 4 nuts.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Move aside the lower secondary bulkhead panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
Right hand drive vehicles

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 4 nuts.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Move aside the lower secondary bulkhead panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

- Remove the screw.
- Release the startup battery positive cable at the 3 clips.
39.
- Release the startup battery positive cable clip.
- Remove the startup battery positive cable.
INSTALLATION
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
1.
- Install the startup battery positive cable at the 4 clips.
- Install and tighten the screw.
Torque: 12Nm
2.
- Reposition the lower secondary bulkhead panel.
- Install and tighten the 4 nuts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Secure the 2 clips.
3.
- Install the left lower secondary bulkhead panel.
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Install the wiring harness grommet.
- Secure the clip
4.
- Install the right lower secondary bulkhead panel.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Secure the startup battery positive cable clip.
- Install the brake pipe to the clip.
5.
- Install the coolant pipe assembly.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 6Nm
- Connect the 2 coolant hose connectors to the climate control assembly.
6.
- Install the jump start terminal to the clip.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 10Nm
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the jump start terminal.
7.
- Install the 2 cables to the jump start terminal.
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
Torque: 12Nm
- Install the 2 covers.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with fuel fired booster heater
8. Install the FFBH.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles without fuel fired booster heater
9. Install the secondary bulkhead right panel.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
10. Install the secondary bulkhead left panel.
11. Install the engine.
12. Install and secure the startup battery positive cable lock.
13.
- Install the cable.
- Install and tighten the nut.
Torque: 12Nm
- Install the nut cover at the 4 clips.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles without stowage compartment
14.
- Install the front floor carpet.
- Feed the 2 wiring harnesses through the floor carpet.
- Install the 4 clips.
15.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the front floor mat.
- Install the 2 clips.
16. Install the front treadplate on both side.
17. Install the A-pillar lower trim panel on both side.
18.
- Install the access cover.
- Secure the 2 clips.
19.
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Install the instrument panel center trim at the 6 clips.
20. Install the floor console.
21.
- Install the left side footwell trim panel.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 5Nm
- Connect the electrical connector to the left side footwell lamp.
- Install the left side footwell lamp to the 2 clips.
22.
- Install the right side footwell trim panel.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 5Nm
- Connect the electrical connector to the right side footwell lamp.
- Install the right side footwell lamp to the 2 clips.
23. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
24. Install the front row seat on both side.
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with stowage compartment
25.
- Install the front right side floor carpet.
- Feed the wiring harness through the floor carpet.
- Install the 2 clips.
26.
- Install the front floor mat.
- Install the 2 clips.
27. Install the front right side treadplate.
28. Install the right A-pillar lower trim panel.
29.
- Install the right side footwell trim panel.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 5Nm
- Connect the electrical connector to the right side footwell lamp.
- Install the right side footwell lamp to the 2 clips.
30.
NOTE:
Make sure that the bolts are centered in the bolt hole.
- Install the floor console side trim panel at the 15 clips.
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
Torque: 2.2Nm
31. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
32. Install the front row right seat.
