Land Rover Defender: Tailgate Wiring Harness
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Remove the right loadspace trim panel.
3. Remove the tailgate trim panel.

- Release the 6 clips.
- Remove the D-pillar upper finisher.

- Release the 3 clips.
- Remove the aperture right finisher.

- Remove the ground nut.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.

- Disconnect the 7 electrical connectors.
- Release the 13 wiring harness clips.

Release the upper grommet.

Release the lower grommet.

Remove the tailgate wiring harness.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the tailgate wiring harness.
2.
- Install the lower grommet.
- Install the upper grommet.
3.
- Connect the 7 electrical connectors.
- Install the 13 wiring harness clips.
4.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Install and tighten the ground nut.
Torque: 9Nm
5.
- Install the aperture right finisher.
- Install the 3 clips.
6. Install the D-pillar upper finisher.
7. Install the tailgate trim panel.
8. Install the right loadspace trim panel.
9. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

WARNINGS:
To prevent accidental deployment, you must power down the Restraints
Control Module (RCM). Wait at
least 1 minute after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable before
you do any work on the
Supplementary Restraint System (
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
CAUTION:
Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT acceptable. Substitution
of control modules does not
guarantee confirmation of a fault, and may also cause additional faults in the
vehicle being tested and/or the
donor vehicle.
