Land Rover Defender: Central High Mounted Stop Lamp
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Make sure to protect the paintwork.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1.
Open the tailgate.
2.
NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
Remove the rear quarter panel moulding.
3.
Remove the 2 bolts.
4.
Remove the 2 bolts.
5.
NOTE:
Do not remove the component at this stage.
Release the 11 clips.
6.
NOTE:
With assistance remove the components.
- Reposition the rear spoiler finisher to get access to the electrical
connector.
- Release wiring harness clip.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the rear spoiler finisher.
7.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the Central High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) bracket.
8.
- Remove the 6 screws.
- Remove the CHMSL.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Install the CHMSL to the rear spoiler finisher.
- Install and tighten the 6 CHMSL screws.
Torque: 2Nm
2.
- Install the CHMSL bracket.
- Install and tighten the 4 CHMSL bracket screws.
Torque: 2Nm
3.
NOTE:
With assistance, install the component.
- Connect the electrical connector to the CHMSL.
- Install the electrical connector clip to the rear spoiler bracket.
- Install the rear spoiler finisher.
- Install the 11 rear spoiler finisher clips.
4.
- Install and tighten the 4 rear spoiler finisher bolts.
Torque: 7Nm
5.
NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
Install the rear quarter panel moulding.
6. Close the tailgate.

- Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.
- Protect the surrounding trim to avoid damage.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right
side components are similar.

1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2. Remove the rear bumper.
3.
Release the tailgate weatherstrip.
4.
Remove the rear quarter panel moulding.
5.
Release the 10 clips and remove the tail lamp outer finisher.
6.
- Remove the clip.
- Release the 7 clips and remove the tail lamp inner finisher.
7.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Release the tail lamp at 3 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the tail lamp.
INSTALLATION
1.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install and align the tail lamp in the sequence illustrated.
- Install and tighten the 3 bolts.
Torque: 4.1Nm
2.
- Install the tail lamp inner finisher.
- Install the clip.
3. Install the tail lamp outer finisher.
4. Install the rear quarter panel moulding.
5. Install the tailgate weatherstrip.
6. Install the rear bumper.
7. Connect the startup battery ground cable.
