Land Rover Defender: Front Bumper
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Make sure that the vehicle paintwork is protected.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

NOTE:
Repeat the procedure for the other side.
Remove the front wheels and tires.
3. Remove the radiator grille.
4.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Release the 9 clips.
- Remove the front fender trim panel.
5.
NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
Release the clip
6.
NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
- Release the 6 clips.
- Release the front section of the wheel arch liner.
7. Remove the front bumper lower cover.

NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
- Remove the screw.
- Remove the outside lower panel from front bumper.
9.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
10.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the 9 clips.
- Disconnect the headlamp washer jet hose.
- Remove the headlamp finisher assembly.
11.
Remove the 5 bolts from the front bumper upper section.
12.
Remove the lower 4 clips from the front bumper.
13.
- Release the 8 clips.
- With assistance, remove the front bumper.

NOTE:
Only complete the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 8 wiring harness clips.
- Release the 2 electrical connectors from front bumper.
15.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 8 wiring harness clips.
16.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 14 wiring harness clips.
17.
Remove the front bumper wiring harness.

NOTE:
Repeat the step for the other side.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the front fog lamp.

NOTE:
Take extra care when releasing the clips.
- Release the 12 clips.
- Remove the 6 parking aid sensors.

CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the clips.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Release the 7 clips.
- Remove the fog lamp finisher from front bumper.

Remove the 6 screws.

CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the clips.
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Release the 20 clips.
- Remove the front bumper protector.

CAUTION:
Take extra care not to damage the clips.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Release the 4 clips.
- Remove the front bumper lower grille.

NOTE:
Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Remove the front proximity camera.
INSTALLATION
1.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the component is correctly located on the locating dowels.
NOTE:
Steps 1 to 7 are only required if the components were previously removed.
- Install the front proximity camera.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 4Nm
2.
NOTE:
Make sure that all the clips are correctly installed.
- Install the front bumper lower grille.
- Make sure the 4 clips are correctly installed.
- Install and tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 4Nm

NOTE:
Make sure that all the clips are correctly installed.
- Install the front bumper protector.
- Make sure the 20 clips are correctly installed.
- Install and tighten the 8 screws.
Torque: 4Nm

NOTE:
- Make sure that all the clips are correctly installed.
- Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the fog lamp finisher.
- Make sure the 7 clips are correctly installed.
5.
NOTE:
Make sure that the sensor is correctly located to the bracket. Audible clicks
will be heard to
confirm connection.
- Install the 6 parking aid sensors.
6.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the front fog lamp.
- Install and tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
7.
NOTE:
Make sure that all the clips are correctly installed.
- Install the front bumper wiring harness.
- Install the 30 wiring harness clips.
- Connect the 9 electrical connectors.
- Install the 2 electrical connectors to the front bumper.
8.
CAUTION:
Care must be taken to avoid damaging the surrounding paintwork.
- With assistance, install the front bumper.
- Make sure the 8 clips are correctly installed.
9. Install the 4 lower clips to the front bumper.
10. Install and tighten the upper 5 bolts to the front bumper.
Torque: 6Nm

NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Connect the headlamp washer jet hose.
- Install the front bumper finisher.
- Make sure the 9 clips are correctly installed.
- Install the bolt.
12.
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Install the 2 wiring harness clips.
13.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the outside lower panel to front bumper.
- Install and tighten the screw.
Torque: 4Nm
14. Install the front bumper lower cover.
15.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the front section of the wheel arch liner.
- Make sure the 6 clips are correctly installed.
16.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
Install the front wheel arch inner moulding clip.
17.
NOTE:
Repeat this step for the other side.
- Install the front fender trim panel.
- Make sure the 9 clips are correctly installed.
18. Install the radiator grille.
19.
NOTE:
Repeat the procedure for the other side.
Install the front wheels and tires.
