Land Rover Defender: Rear Door Trim Panel
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
CAUTIONS:
- Use a suitable trim tool.
- Make sure to protect the paintwork.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right
side components are similar.
1. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
2.
- Release the 11 clips.
- Remove the rear door armrest trim as illustrated.
3.
- Open the rear door interior handle.
- Remove the mid-range speaker trim.
4.
- Release the 11 clips.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear door ambience
lighting.
- Remove the rear door pocket trim.
5.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 10 screws.
6.
- Release the 7 clips.
- Remove the rear door trim panel.
7.
- Release and disconnect the rear door interior handle cable.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the mid-range speaker.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear door locking switch.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the rear door ambience
lighting wiring harness.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.

NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Remove the 5 screws.
- Remove the rear door interior handle trim.
9.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the rear door interior handle.
10.
- Release the mid-range speaker electrical connector.
- Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
- Rotate and remove the mid-range speaker.
11.
- Release the interior handle ambience lighting electrical connector.
- Release the 5 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the interior handle ambience lighting.
12.
- Release the rear door pocket ambience lighting electrical connector.
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Release the 2 clips.
- Remove the rear door pocket.
13.
- Release the 4 clips.
- Remove the rear door locking switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the rear door locking switch.
2.
- Install the rear door pocket.
- Install and tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
- Secure the rear door pocket ambience lighting electrical connector and
wiring harness.
3.
- Install the interior handle ambience lighting.
- Secure the interior handle ambience lighting electrical connector and
wiring harness.
4.
- Install the mid-range speaker.
- Secure the mid-range speaker electrical connector and wiring harness.
5.
- Install the rear door interior handle.
- Install and tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
6.
- Install the rear door interior handle trim.
- Install and tighten the 5 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
7. Inspect the rear door trim panel clips if damaged replace them.
8.
- Install the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Connect the electrical connector to the mid-range speaker.
- Connect the electrical connector to the rear door locking switch.
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the rear door ambience lighting
wiring harness.
- Install and secure the rear door interior handle cable.
9.
- Install the rear door trim panel.
- Secure the 7 clips.
10.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5Nm
- Install and tighten the 10 screws.
Torque: 1.5Nm
11.
- Connect the electrical connector to the rear door ambience lighting.
- Install the rear door pocket trim.
12.
- Open the rear door interior handle.
- Install the mid-range speaker trim.
13. Install the rear door armrest trim.
14. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

Control Module (RCM). Wait at
least 1 minute after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable before
you do any work on the
Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). If you do not
