Land Rover Defender: Removal

1. Open the hood.

2.

Remove the hood latch panel finisher.

NOTES:

Front Expedition Protection System

Remove the front bumper from the vehicle. Complete only steps 1 to 15 of the referenced front bumper workshop manual. Then continue following the accessory procedure.

CAUTION: In the event of damage to one or both of the front center parking aid sensors then the correct quantity of replacement ceres silver parking aid sensors (LR138717) must be ordered.

Front Expedition Protection System

Remove and retain the 2 parking aid sensors (S1) from the front bumper.

  1. Disconnect the parking aid sensor harness from the parking aid sensor.
  2. Remove the parking aid sensor from the front bumper.

CAUTION: This step must be completed to make sure there is sufficient harness length to allow the camera to be installed to the A-frame cover.

Remove the arrowed tape and the arrowed clip securing the camera harness to the front wiring harness.

Disconnect the camera harness from the camera.

NOTE: Retain the license plate and the license plate fixings.

Remove the license plate and the license plate fixings.

NOTE: The existing vehicle license plate plinth cannot be installed to the 'A' frame protection bar. A new license plate plinth must be ordered that can be installed to the 'A' frame protection bar. The correct license plate plinth for the vehicle market must be ordered.

Remove the license plate plinth if installed. Discard the license plate plinth.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the clips.

NOTE: Repeat this step for the other side.

Remove the fog lamp finisher.

Remove the 6 screws.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the clips.

NOTE: Make sure all fixings are retained.

Remove the front bumper protector.

Remove the camera housing and the front proximity camera from the front bumper grille part.

Remove the front proximity camera from the camera housing.

  1. Remove the front proximity camera from the camera housing. Retain the front proximity camera (S2).
  2. Discard the camera housing.

CAUTION: For Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles the prepared chrome front bumper protector (VPLEB0441) must be installed.

NOTE: Make sure all fixings and parking aid sensors are retained.

Remove the front bumper lower corner covers from both sides of the front bumper.

  1. Disconnect the parking aid sensors. The quantity of parking aid sensors will vary depending on the vehicle specification.
  2. Remove parking aid sensors as required to allow removal of the front bumper lower corner covers.

NOTE: The cut guide line is found on the reverse side of the part.

Identify the cut guide lines on the front bumper lower corner covers.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: Take extra care to make sure the cut follows the cut guide lines exactly. There is a risk of irreversible damage to the part.

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the front bumper lower corner covers. Discard the removed sections.

17.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: Take extra care to make sure the holes are drilled at the correct location as illustrated.

NOTE: The markings are found on the reverse side of the part.

Drill 4 holes in the lower corner of the front bumper carrier as illustrated. Repeat step for the other side of the front bumper.

CAUTION: Move aside any harnesses that are positioned near to the cut guide lines.

NOTE: The cut guide line is found on the reverse side of the part.

Identify the cut guide lines on the lower corners of the front bumper carrier.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTIONS:

Front Expedition Protection System

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated part from the front bumper carrier. Repeat step for the other side of the front bumper carrier.

CAUTION: For Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles the prepared chrome front bumper protector (VPLEB0441) must be ordered. The chrome front bumper protector is already cut in preparation for use with the front expedition protection system.

NOTE: Make sure to remove and retain the grille part of the front bumper protector removed from the vehicle.

For Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles only, do not complete steps 21 to 26. Continue from step 27.

Install the grille part of the front bumper protector, that was removed from the vehicle, to the cut chrome front bumper protector (VPLEB0441).

Discard the front bumper protector that was removed from the vehicle. The chrome front bumper protector (VPLEB0441) will be installed instead.

NOTES:

Mark a point at the center of the front bumper protector.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

NOTE: Step not required for Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles.

Drill a hole at the marked position.

CAUTION: There are multiple cut guide lines on the front bumper protector. There is a risk of irreversible damage to the part if the correct cut guide lines are not followed.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: There are multiple cut guide lines on the surface of the part. Make sure the correct cut guide lines are followed as illustrated.

NOTE: Step not required for Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles.

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the front bumper protector. Discard the removed sections.

CAUTION: There are multiple cut guide lines on the front bumper protector. There is a risk of irreversible damage to the part if the correct cut guide lines are not followed.

NOTES:

Identify the correct cut guide lines on the front bumper protector for the parking aid sensor holes.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: There are multiple cut guide lines on the surface of the part. Make sure the correct cut guide lines are followed as illustrated.

NOTE: Step not required for Dynamic and X-Dynamic vehicles.

Front Expedition Protection System

Use suitable tooling to drill the illustrated parking aid sensor holes in the front bumper protector. Discard the removed sections.

27.

CAUTION: Extra care must be taken to avoid cutting the arrowed feature.

NOTE: The cut guide lines are found on the reverse side of the part.

Identify the correct cut guide lines on the radiator grille.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: There are multiple cut guide lines on the surface of the part. Make sure the correct cut guide lines are followed as illustrated.

Use suitable tooling to cut the illustrated sections from the radiator grille. Discard the removed sections.

29.

NOTE: Make sure to retain all fixings (S6). Some of the fixings will be used again when the front section of the front wheel arch liner is installed again.

Remove the front section of the front wheel arch liner on both sides of the vehicle.

30.

Identify the cut guide lines on the front wheel arch liner.

WARNING: Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

CAUTION: Take extra care to make sure the cut follows the cut guide lines exactly. There is a risk of irreversible damage to the part.

Front Expedition Protection System

Use suitable tooling to cut the section of the front wheel arch liner on both sides of the vehicle as illustrated.

Discard the removed sections.

32.

Front Expedition Protection System

Remove the 2 brake ducts as illustrated. Retain the fixings (S3) that secure the brake ducts to the cooling module protector.

  1. Remove the 4 brake duct fixings (S3) and retain.
  2. Remove the 2 brake ducts and retain.

33.

CAUTION: On P6 vehicle variants there is a cooling pipe that must be removed from the cooling module protector.

Release and aside the cooling pipe from the cooling module protector as illustrated.

  1. Release the cooling pipe from the 2 arrowed clips and aside the cooling pipe.
  2. Remove the 2 clips (S4) and retain.

34.

CAUTION: Carefully move aside the air conditioning pipes on both sides of the cooling module protector to allow access.

Front Expedition Protection System

Remove the cooling module protector as illustrated.

  1. Remove and retain the 2 cooling module protector M12 bolts (S5).
  2. Remove and discard the 2 cooling module protector bolts as illustrated. Move aside the air conditioning pipes to allow access.
  3. Remove and discard the cooling module protector.
