Land Rover Defender: Tie Rod End

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL

NOTES:

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

2. Remove the front wheel and tire.

3.

Tie Rod End

Remove the component.

4.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the tie-rods, use an additional wrench when loosening or tightening the components.

Tie Rod End

Loosen the tie-rod end locking nut.

5.

Tie Rod End

Loosen the tie-rod end ball joint retaining nut.

6.

Tie Rod End

Use the special tool to release the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.

Special Tool(s): JLR-204-793A

7.

Tie Rod End

Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining nut.

8.

NOTE: To aid installation, count the number of rotations taken to remove the tie-rod end.

Remove the tie-rod end.

INSTALLATION

1.

NOTE: Count the number of rotations when installing the tie-rod end.

Install the tie-rod end.

2.

Tie Rod End

Install the tie-rod end to wheel knuckle. Install a new nut.

Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut Quantity: 1.

Torque: 140Nm

3.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the tie-rods, use an additional wrench when loosening or tightening the components.

Tie Rod End

Tighten the tie-rod end locking nut.

Torque: 76Nm

4.

Tie Rod End

Install the component.

Torque: 9Nm

5. Install the front wheel and tire.

6.

NOTE: Use the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment to check and if necessary adjust the wheel alignment. SRO must be claimed separately.

Complete the front wheel alignment only.
