Land Rover Defender: Differential Draining and Filling

DRAINING
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending
on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.
2. Remove the engine undershield.

NOTE:
If equipped.

- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the bracket.
4.
NOTE:
Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

- Clean the front differential filler plug mating faces.
- Remove and discard the front differential filler bolt.
5.

- Clean the front differential drain plug mating faces.
- Remove and discard the front differential drain bolt.
6. Install and tighten the front differential new drain bolt.
FILLING
1. Fill the front differential with the correct amount of differential oil.
2. Install and tighten the front differential new filler bolt.
Renew Part: Front differential fill plug Quantity: 1.
Torque: 30Nm

- Install the bracket.
- Install and tighten the 3 bolts.
Torque: 50Nm
4. Install the engine undershield.
